East Africa

Rwanda, on international standards

Kigali works in English and keeps its books under IFRS for SMEs — the framework that lenders and international investors read. It is our door into East Africa, and the only one of our markets whose accounts read without translation from London or Nairobi.

Quoting currency
RWF

The Rwandan franc. Outside the franc zone, like the kwanza.

Accounting framework
IFRS for SMEs

Not an imposed chart of accounts: a presentation framework.

Working language
English

The language of business and of government.

Time difference with Paris
0 to 1 h

Kigali is an hour ahead in winter, level with Paris in summer.

What the framework changes

SYSCOHADA and the Angolan PGC impose a numbered chart of accounts: the class states the nature of the entry. IFRS for SMEs does not work that way — it is a PRESENTATION framework, which says what the financial statements must look like without imposing the accounts that produce them. For management software the difference runs deep: it calls for a configurable chart and an explicit mapping from each account to its line in the statements.

Who you contract with

Being incorporated

The Rwandan company is being incorporated. Until it is registered, our French entity issues the quote, signs the contract and invoices — in RWF, with no exchange costs on your side.

What we do there

Bespoke work, in English

The site and Konseo’s screens already exist in both languages: English is not a translation bolted on afterwards.

Konseo, under IFRS for SMEs

The software’s third accounting framework. It too awaits sign-off from a local chartered accountant.

Hosting and upkeep

Go-live, backups, security patches. And a markedly more reliable network than elsewhere in the region.

Konseo keeps IFRS for SMEs accounts — a free chart of accounts, financial statements in the formats lenders expect.
